Sheila Hiestand Elected President of the Kentucky Justice Association
Posted in Press Releases on September 23, 2011Sheila Hiestand, an attorney at Hughes & Coleman who handles nursing home abuse and neglect cases, has been elected president of the Kentucky Justice Association.
The Kentucky Justice Association (KJA) is a group of more than 1,400 Kentucky attorneys dedicated to protecting the health and safety of Kentucky families by enhancing consumer protection and preserving the right of all Kentucky residents to a trial by jury. The KJA serves as an important statewide voice for consumers.
Hiestand has spent her career focusing on the rights of consumers. In addition to handling nursing home abuse and neglect cases, Hiestand also focuses on personal injury and medical negligence claims.
Active in the community, Hiestand is a member the board of the Alzheimer’s Association of Lexington and the co-chair of its annual Memory Walk. She has also served on the board of the United Way of the Bluegrass Community Center.
Hiestand graduated from Centre College with a double major in English and Spanish and received her law degree from the University of Kentucky College of Law. Among her various honors, she received the Fayette County Bar Association Outstanding Young Lawyer award in 1998. Martindale-Hubbell named her an “AV-rated” lawyer this year, and the American Trial Lawyers Association has recognized her as one of the top 100 trial lawyers in Kentucky.
For the past three years, 2009, 2010 and 2011, Hiestand has been included in Kentucky Super Lawyers. She is also included in the 2011-2012 edition of Who’s Who in American Law.
In addition to her work with the Kentucky Justice Association, Hiestand is the chair of the Kentucky Bar Association Young Lawyers Section and a member of the Million Dollar Advocates forum.
